How to get a job as a Community Manager? | HM Issue #4
Skills you should learn to become a community manager
A number of startups, small & medium-size businesses, and influencers have already started their brand communities recently
and a large number of new brand communities will be launched in the next couple of years.
While almost all of them will struggle in finding the initial audience, finding the right purpose, defining a structure, and growth for their community
One thing they will all struggle for sure is to get the right community manager
But why
Because a community manager is not one job, It is a combination of many jobs
You have to play the role of a
Public speaker - Because you may have to work as a moderator in many events
Event Manager - Because you will have to organize many events
Social Media Marketing Manager - This one is compulsory
Content Writer - Because all the time you will be writing content
PR Expert - Without this, you cannot move up the ladder
Data Analytics Manager - Because your core job will always remain to justify that the business needs this community
Project Manager - Your community will always be dependent upon many other things and you would need to align all those things
Personal Assistant - Because you do not only need to manage your time, you need to manage a lot of people (this number is unimaginable)
Customer Care Executive - Because so many people want to talk to you to complain
and there are many more such jobs that a Community Manager is expected to do
The biggest job however is to be an Empathetic Listener, because so many people want to talk to you to share their pain
And I believe, this is one of the most crucial things
You see, it is very difficult to find an empathetic listener
who fits in this job profile
Can use Asana, Trello, Notion, Airtable, or something like that to manage projects,
Can work on WordPress, Wix, or some other builders to create online pages
Can use MailChimp, ConvertKit, or substack to publish a weekly newsletter
and the list goes on . . .
And that is why I started HiveMakers this content platform
If you like the content, do share it on your network
(It is very here, just click on the share button)
which is essentially a weekly newsletter
but I am also contemplating to start
a week-long event
or a monthly event
where we might invite existing Community Managers to share their viewpoints and experiences
so that many people may learn from that and get ready to become a Community Manager
And I need your help
To create this platform, I will need to connect with
more and more existing Community Managers
and on the other hand a lot of aspiring Community Managers.
You can help me to connect with any of the lot or both
By sharing this newsletter with them and ask them to subscribe.
Soon we will host our event and will invite you to participate
